The Massachusetts Historical Society is pleased to announce seven compelling sessions in the 2017-2018 Boston Environmental History Seminar. The first session will take place October 10, when James Rice will present Early American Environmental Histories, with comment by Chris Parsons. This year's sessions examine how the environment has shaped American societies from 18th-century Pennsylvania, to the early 20th-century Quabbin Valley, to Cape Cod in the 1960s. We will follow fisheries legislation from the nation's capital to Georges Bank, and block ice from New England to the tropics. Next spring, in a joint session with the Boston Area Early American History Seminar, we'll continue to explore opportunities in these intersecting fields. Please join us to consider rich, compelling scholarship and take part in vibrant discussions that will advance the field and your own work.
Most programs will be held at the MHS, 1154 Boylston Street in Boston, and consider a pre-circulated paper. Discussion is followed by a light supper. The programs are free and open to the public, but those who subscribe to a series receive advance online access to the papers that will be discussed. Visit our website<https://www.masshist.org/2012/calendar/seminars/environmental-history> for more information and to RSVP, and follow our activities on Twitter @MHS_Research<https://twitter.com/MHS_Research>. We hope to see you there!
