Join us at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary this Saturday, April 15 from 11 AM-Noon for the following lecture:

The History of Salt Marshes on Cape Cod

Salt Marshes are one of the most biologically-productive ecosystems on Earth and can be viewed as the “nurseries of the ocean.” The plants and animals they support have proved invaluable to Cape Codders for thousands of years. Join Dr. John Cumbler as he discusses the crucial role salt marshes have played in shaping the human history of Cape Cod.

Dr. John Cumbler is a retired history professor from the University of Louisville. He has written seven books including Cape Cod: An Environmental History of a Fragile Ecosystem. Besides having held fellowships with the ACLS and the National Endowment For The Humanities, he held the John Adams Distinguished Fulbright Chair in the Netherlands and is a Honorary Fellow at the University of Warwick, England. He is a trained and certified rescuer of large marine mammals and sea turtles.

Cost is $5 for Mass Audubon members; $7 for non-members. Pre-register by calling 508-349-2615 or online at http://www.massaudubon.org/get-outdoors/program-catalog#program:sanctuary=20:program_code=52771

Hope to see you there!
