CRANBERRY DAY AT THE GREEN BRIAR NATURE CENTER & JAM KITCHEN

Cape Cod Cranberry Day takes place at the Green Briar Nature Center & Jam
Kitchen on Saturday, October 1 from 10am to 4pm. Green Briar celebrates
this native berry so prominent in the history of Cape Cod with cooking
demonstrations in its historic 1903 Jam Kitchen using traditional cranberry
jam and relish recipes. Come by and enjoy a homemade cranberry dessert,
clam chowder or chili served from 11am to 2pm in the kitchen for a $4 fee.
Activities include a special story time for families at 10:30am and guided
tours of a neighboring cranberry bog at 11:30am and 1:30pm. Fees for the
bog tour are $3 per person or $5 per family. Children are free. From 10am
to 1pm author Ed Lodi is on hand to sign copies of Marmalade and Murder, the
first book in his celebrated Cranberry Country Mystery Series, which are set
on the cranberry bogs of Cape Cod and southeastern Massachusetts. Visitors
may also browse among the used book sale, view the gallery exhibits and
check out the nature center's resident animals. Green Briar's unique gift
shop offers jams, jellies and preserves made here as they have been for over
100 years as well as a variety of nature-related items including books,
jewelry, t-shirts, toys and gifts for children. All proceeds support the
environmental education programs of the Thornton W. Burgess Society and its
Green Briar Nature Center. Green Briar is located at 6 Discovery Hill Road,
just off Route 6A in East Sandwich. For further information, call
508-888-6870 or visit the website at <http://www.thorntonburgess.org/>
