Public Lecture - “An Ocean of Plastic: Searching for Solutions”
Sea Education Association (SEA) will host a public lecture, “An Ocean of Plastic: Searching for Solutions,” on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. The lecture will address the global problem of plastics pollution in the ocean, and look at possible solutions. SEA professors Erin Bryant, Kara Lavender Law and Mark Long will deliver the lecture, part of SEA’s Fall Lecture Series, at James L. Madden Center Lecture Hall, Sea Education Center, 171 Woods Hole Road, Falmouth. It is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
About the Lecture
SEA has been focused on the issue of plastics of in our oceans for decades, dating to the late 1970s, and the research continues with each and every SEA Semester voyage. SEA is increasingly turning its attention to possible solutions, as well. SEA faculty members, working with Falmouth Water Stewards, have teamed up with NOAA to leverage social norm theory and address the source of plastics in the ocean. With the development of public education materials, they hope to help staunch the flow of plastics into our waters. This lecture examines this global problem, and looks at possible solutions….
