The Center for Coastal Studies presents “The Global Whale Entanglement
Response Network: Increasing capacity around the world” by David Mattila.

Wednesday, January 27 at 7 pm
Napi’s Restaurant, 7 Freeman Street, Provincetown

The greatest known lethal threat to whales is entanglement in manmade
materials. It is possible that more whales die globally from this than all
other human activities combined.

The Global Whale Entanglement Response Network (GWERN), a new initiative to
mitigate human impacts to whales, is headquartered at the Center for
Coastal Studies. GWERN builds on an existing partnership between CCS and
the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to build a worldwide network of
professionally trained and equipped entanglement responders.

GWERN director David Mattila, will explain how the program builds capacity
through “in country” training workshops using IWC endorsed curriculum;
apprenticeships for key trainees; and the establishment of advanced
training guidelines for growing national networks.

Free, all welcome. Come at 5 pm and enjoy Napi's special early bird dinner!
