<div dir="ltr">The Center for Coastal Studies presents “The Global Whale Entanglement Response Network: Increasing capacity around the world” by David Mattila.<div><br></div><div>Wednesday, January 27 at 7 pm</div><div>Napi’s Restaurant, 7 Freeman Street, Provincetown<br> <br style="font-size:12.8px"><span style="font-size:12.8px">The greatest known lethal threat to whales is entanglement in manmade materials. It is possible that more whales die globally from this than all other human activities combined.</span><br style="font-size:12.8px"><br style="font-size:12.8px"><span style="font-size:12.8px">The Global Whale Entanglement Response Network (GWERN), a new initiative to mitigate human impacts to whales, is headquartered at the Center for Coastal Studies. GWERN builds on an existing partnership between CCS and the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to build a worldwide network of professionally trained and equipped entanglement responders.</span><br style="font-size:12.8px"><br style="font-size:12.8px"><span style="font-size:12.8px">GWERN director David Mattila, will explain how the program builds capacity through “in country” training workshops using IWC endorsed curriculum; apprenticeships for key trainees; and the establishment of advanced training guidelines for growing national networks.</span><br style="font-size:12.8px"><br>Free, all welcome.
