BREWSTER, MA ­ The Cape Cod Museum of Natural 
History presents Mud Painting Watercolor Statues, 
an environmental art class with Sally Tucker-Levy 
Thursday, August 18th & Friday August 19th  2016 10am-12pm.

This is a short, fun class on how to make 
sculptures out of ordinary materials that most of 
us have at home. Participants will take a piece 
of watercolor paper and scrunch it up in their 
hands then flatten out the paper and use 
watercolors and mud paint made from diatomaceous 
earth, which is the fossilized remains of tiny, 
aquatic organisms called diatoms. Their skeletons 
are made of a natural substance called silica. 
Over a long period of time, diatoms accumulated 
in the sediment of rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans.

Students then use their own individual creativity 
to paint designs that decorate their statues. 
After one coat only, the statues can be scrunched 
again. A fun and creative art experience!

This class is for adults and kids alike! Materials provided.

  Sally Tucker-Levy is a special education 
teacher by trade and has been teaching 
environmental art classes for the past 8 years.
