BREWSTER, MA As part of the Gardening for Life
Speaker Series, the Friends of the Cape Cod
Museum of Natural History and Association to
Preserve Cape Cod present I Speak for Bees with
Gail Howe Trenholm Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 1pm at
CCMNH 869 Main St./Rte. 6A in Brewster.

There are over 200,000 different species of
animals in the world that act as pollinators. Of
these about 1000 are vertebrates like birds, bats
and small animals. The real workhorses are the
199,000 invertebrates that achieve the majority
of our crop pollination. Everyone knows about
honey bees, but many people don’t know they are
not native. The unsung heroes are our native
bees, wasps, beetles, butterflies, moths, and even flies.

Gail will provide an introduction and simple
overview of the various characteristics of these
families of insects with emphasis on the more
important pollinators. She is a self-taught
naturalist who recently has developed a passion
for our native bees and providing habitat both in
her own yard and throughout Oakville, ON.

Gail Howe Trenholm is both a Master Naturalist
and Founder and President of Nature Visits Inc.,
an environmental education organization in
Toronto, Ontario. Prior to moving to Canada she
was Conservation Coordinator at Massachusetts
Audubon's Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center
and Wildlife Sanctuary in Worcester. She was an
active member of the Massachusetts Butterfly
Club, and recently presented on pollinators and
bee hotel design at the Massachusetts
Environmental Educators Association's annual
conference. During her career, Gail has conducted
many insect programs for anyone who will listen
and those who have taken her courses know her
enthusiasm for insects is both inspiring and contagious!
