The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI <http://www.gmri.org/>) is seeking applicants for a post-doc and a technician positions. Both positions are supported by a grant from NOAA’s Coastal and Ocean Climate Applications (COCA) program to evaluate social-ecological vulnerability and climate adaptation strategies for northeast U. S. fishing communities and Dr. Jenny Sun, Senior Marine Resource Economist in GMRI, will be the official supervisor for both of the positions - see advert below.

Overview:
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI <http://www.gmri.org/>) is seeking applicants for a 2.5 year postdoctoral position and a 15-month Research Technician beginning Jan. 1, 2016, that that will be based at Portland, Maine and will be supported by a grant from NOAA’s Coastal and Ocean Climate Applications (COCA) program. The successful candidates will be at the center of an effort, led by Dr. Jenny Sun, to build a multiple species and multiple fishing activities sector equilibrium model of how the commercial fisheries in the Northeast US respond to climate-driven shifts in distribution of fish species. Project investigators will also use the county-level IMPLAN (IMpact analysis for PLANning) dataset to assess the overall local economic impacts of both commercial and marine recreational fishing expenditures in the eleven coastal states from Maine to North Carolina.
The successful candidate will work closely with a team of resource economists, fisheries ecologists, and climate modelers to quantify climate impacts to both commercial and recreational fishing sectors by assessing the impacts of stock spatial distribution, fishing level, and economic conditions in a changing environment.
Requirements for Economics Postdoctoral Position:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in the field of applied economics or related studies. The position requires strong mathematical, statistical, and computational skills. The ideal candidate will be familiar with general equilibrium theory and with computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and will have experience working in a mathematical programming environment like General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS). Some exposure to the NMFS Seafood Industry Input/Output Model <https://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/apex/f?p=160:7:0::NO> and IMPLAN Multi-Regional Input-Output (MRIO) Analysis is strongly desired. Collaboration in preparation of working papers, journal articles and other written materials is expected, along with presentations to stakeholders and at regional and national meetings.
Requirements for Economics Technician Position:
Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in economics or in a related field such as statistics, mathematics, finance, or computer science. We seek applicants who have training in econometrics, mathematical statistics, or both, as well as good computer skills--for example, facility with statistical packages such as SAS or a programming language such as GAMS. Familiarity with IMPLAN Multi-Regional Input-Output (MRIO) Analysis is strongly desired. In addition, this position requires prior training in economics through the intermediate theory level.
