The Center for Coastal Studies presents "Awareness Inspires Conservation:
White Sharks in the North Atlantic" by Cynthia Wigren, President of the
Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, on Wednesday, February 25 at 7 pm at
Napi's Restaurant, Provincetown.

Despite its well-established presence in the North Atlantic, the white
shark is not considered an abundant species. Between 2009-2014,
Massachusetts scientists tagged 56 white sharks with coded acoustic
transmitters and/or satellite-based tracking tags to examine fine- and
broad-scale movements along the east coast of the US. In 2014, these
scientists began a multi-year study to estimate local and regional white
shark population sizes in the Western North Atlantic.

Cynthia Wigren will present highlights of the results of the scientist's
research, and provide information about the Atlantic White Shark
Conservancy, established in 2012 to fund white shark research and promote
shark education.

This free presentation is part of the Center for Coastal Studies' Winter
Lecture Series, which is supported by Napi's Restaurant at 7 Freeman Street
in Provincetown. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 5 pm and enjoy
Napi's special early bird dinner.
