On the Wing: A Celebration of Birds in Music and Spoken Word is a collaborative performance piece that incorporates music, song, poetry, imagery, and expert commentary on birds. On The Wing celebrates birds as symbols of wonderment, freedom, adaptability and the creative spirit, and illustrates the ways in which the arts and artists have drawn inspiration from them and the natural world they inhabit.
This hour-long presentation includes the performance of twelve original songs, written by composer Andrew List, and performed by celebrated musicians Krista River, mezzo-soprano, and George Lopez, pianist. Poet Mary Pinard, who collaborated on the song cycle, will read original poems about birds. Wayne Petersen, director of Mass Audubon’s Important Bird Areas Program, will provide expert background and commentary on bird behavior. Following the performance, viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions of the performers using the chat window on Ustream or Twitter.
The presentation will be live-streamed from a private home in Plymouth thanks to the generosity of the homeowners and the support of Plymouth Area Community Television. It is the second in Goldenrod Foundation’s 2015 speaker series: Making Waves in Coastal Conservation. While watching, viewers can join the chat on Twitter by following GoldenrodFn and using the hashtag “makingwaves.”

Many thanks to piano tuner Christopher Brown for donating his services. He tunes pianos throughout southeastern Massachusetts, and you may contact him at: christuner1 at gmail.com. Thanks also to our generous supporters, without whom this series would not be possible. Our educational programs include the Making Waves series, the Beach Ambassadors volunteer program, Summer in Winter and more.
