Four talented Teacher/Naturalists have the opportunity to live and work at the N.E.E.D. Academy each school year. The staff is balanced with two men and two women. As of August 11th, we are looking for an experienced, energetic and outgoing male teacher/naturalist to round out the team for the 2015-16 school year.
Responsibilities: Teacher/Naturalists lead 3 hikes/lessons per day for their teaching group. Teachers develop and present experiential lessons based on the MA Education Frameworks and Common Core Standards. Lessons are centered on the local environments (Beach & Dune, Dune Forest, Kettlehole pond, Freshwater Swamps) and history (Pilgrims, Shipwrecks & U.S. Lifesaving Service). Lessons also include: Nightwalk, Group Dynamics, and Pizza Making. Teachers are also responsible on a rotating basis for helping with meal preparation and serving, wake up/bedtime duties, group supervision during short bus trips to various natural and historical areas of the outer Cape, and the overall care and maintenance of the facility. Work week is Monday 8 am through Friday 2 pm. Each Teacher/Naturalist has one day (9:30-4:30) and one evening (after 7 pm) off during the work week. Weekends are free.
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree, Current CPR & First Aid certification. Love of being outdoors in all kinds of weather on the great outer beach of the Cape Cod National Seashore and a background/experience in natural history interpretation, marine science, or general ecology strongly recommended. Candidates with experience in working with youth, residential education, and facilitating team building given preference. Seashore program "alumni" from Falmouth, D-Y, Harwich and Chatham are encouraged to apply!
Dates: September 12, 2015 - early June 2016. One week off at Thanksgiving, two weeks off at Christmas/New Years. One week off for February Break. (Week of President's Day).
Salary: Salary is paid bi-weekly through out the school year, private room and board are provided.
