Luxury and Adventure..yes they can be combined! And
over the weekend of November 14th - 16th The Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s is
doing just that with “Birds, Beds and Breakfast,” a benefit for Wild Care of
Cape Cod. This unique wildlife exploration experience provides luxurious
accommodations, made-to-order breakfasts, hosted tea & cocktail parties,
and a gala Saturday night dinner at famous Napi’s restaurant along with
magnificent opportunities to learn about and observe the wild creatures of Cape
Cod.
 
The weekend itinerary will feature
field walks and interactive talks about the birds and mammals of Cape Cod;
presented by renowned ornithologists and naturalists Vern Laux, Peter
Alden and master tracker Diane Boretos. Also taking part
in the educational aspect of the weekend will be Jonathan G. Way, a

luxurious and historic Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s, located in the heart of
Provincetown, delicious breakfasts and lunches, afternoon tea, cocktail

cost for “Birds, Beds and Breakfast” is $600 for singles and $700-$900 per
couple.  100% of proceeds from the event will go to support Wild Care of
Cape Cod. Wild Care’s mission is to treat injured, ill and orphaned native wildlife,
for release back into the wild capable of independent survival; to prevent
wildlife casualties through public education and live counseling; and to engage

Vern Laux is a bird expert, butterfly
enthusiast, international bird tour leader, educator, radio commentator,
columnist and author who also happens to love to fish. He has written thousands
of newspaper columns about birds and the natural world appearing in the New
York Times, the Cape Cod Times, the Martha’s Vineyard Times, Vineyard Gazette,
and Nantucket’s Inquirer and Mirror, published magazine articles in Birder’s
World, Birding and Nantucket Today, and authored the book Bird News-Vagrants
And Visitors On A Peculiar Island. He lives on Nantucket and is the Resident
Naturalist, Land Manager and Education Director for the Linda Loring Nature
Foundation.
 
For more than 20 years, Peter Alden has designed and led birding and
wildlife tours, safaris and cruises to over 100 countries. A pioneering
explorer, Peter scouted and led the first hard-core birding eco-tours to many
tropical and southern hemisphere countries. His interests have widened from his
original field of ornithology to include all visible biodiversity, conservation
issues, historical changes in the landscape, climate change and the invasive
alien plant and animal crisis affecting us today.
He is the author of 15 books on North American and African wildlife
published by Knopf, Houghton Mifflin, Harper Collins, the University of Arizona
Press and others which have sold over 2,000,000 copies. Peter also organized
the first Biodiversity Day with Harvard’s Edward O. Wilson in Concord and
Lincoln, Mass. and held on July 4th 1998, commemorating the day Thoreau moved
into his cabin at Walden Pond.
Diane Boretos teaches wildlife tracking
programs for adults throughout New England. She is a certified Professional
Wetland Scientist and the principal biologist and founder of Call of the Wild
Consulting and Environmental Services.  For six years Diane was a wetland
biologist with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s
Division of Wetlands where she specialized in the wildlife habitat regulations,
under the state Wetland Protection Act Regulations 310CMR 10.00. 
She has provided expert testimony on behalf of towns and states on wetland and
wildlife issues and has authored numerous articles on wetlands and
wildlife.  She is co-author of Stackpole Books’ Bird Tracks and
Sign and editor of Wetlands by Paul Rezendes. 
She has extensive experience dealing with protection of endangered species
under state and federal regulations.  Diane has been tracking wildlife in
New England and in the Rocky Mountains for 15 years and has studied with master
trackers such as Jim Halfpenny and Paul Rezendes. 
 
Jonathan Way is most interested in
the study of carnivores inhabiting urbanized areas. He has developed a
long-term study on eastern coyotes (or coywolves as he calls them) inhabiting
eastern Massachusetts, and has a B.S. (UMass Amherst), M.S. (UConn Storrs), and
doctorate (Boston College) related to this research. He is the author of two
books: Suburban Howls, an
account of his research findings and experiences studying eastern coyotes in
Massachusetts, and My Yellowstone Experience, which details - in
full color - the spectacular wildlife, scenery, and hydrothermal features that
can be found in the world's first national park. He runs an organization Eastern Coyote Research that helps
supports his long-term ecological and behavioral study of coywolves in
Massachusetts. He also works part time with the Yellowstone Ecological Research Center examining
the effects of mortality on coyote population demographics, and frequently
travels to the Yellowstone area to watch wolves and bears and other wildlife.
