*Part-Time Educator Positions- open positions as of 1-18-14*





The Ocean Explorium, located in the heart of downtown New Bedford, is
seeking enthusiastic educators for part-time positions working with
SouthCoast-area families and school groups.  *It is the mission of the
Ocean Explorium to establish New Bedford as a center for ocean science
public education, with an emphasis on environmental stewardship and science
literacy.*



Qualified candidates will have experience in either formal or informal
educational settings, with a science background.  Experience creating and
running after school programs preferred.  Educators are expected to be
enthusiastic, out-going, personable, adaptable, eager to learn, and have
the ability to manage large groups of children and/or adults and work well
in a team.



Educator responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
teach school groups using Ocean Explorium curriculum materials on-site as
well as off-site; monitor and teach at our touch tanks containing local
tide pool organisms, small sharks and sting rays; present programs using
the Science on a Sphere(R) and iPad interface on topics including Ocean
Science, Astronomy, Geology, Weather, Climate and much more; lead hands-on
activities that follow a changing theme in our Explorer Zone; clean and
organize the education/exhibit space on a regular basis and perform office
work as needed.



Applicants must have completed a four year degree program and be able to
regularly work weekend shifts.  Applicants must also have a valid driver's
license and be willing to learn to drive a large box truck.  Please note
that work hours are variable.  Multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
