*2014 Maggie Geist Internship - summer coastal ecology educator*

The Maggie Geist Internship Program was established in 2012 in recognition
of former APCC Executive Director Maggie Geist who made many contributions
to the protection of Cape Cod's environment. The Geist Internship is
designed to provide an individual who is committed to ecology and
environmental protection with a meaningful and substantial learning
experience working in one of the most beautiful ecosystems - Cape Cod. The
internship is a full-time funded position for 8-10 weeks.

For 2014, APCC is seeking a biology teacher who is interested in spending
the summer performing scientific research to reacquaint themselves with
hands-on science. Under the supervision of APCC staff, the intern will
monitor tidally restricted salt marshes for ecosystem health. This will
involve seining for fish, identifying and quantifying vegetation, measuring
water quality parameters, entering data into an existing database, and
maintaining and repairing field equipment.

Ideal candidate qualifications include the following:

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

· Proficiency in advanced GPS devices (Trimble).

· Familiarity with YSI multi-probe datalogger.

· Field experience.

· Experience with fish and plant identification skills a plus.

Candidates should have access to their own transportation. If travel to a
project site is necessary, reimbursement is available. Applicant must be
organized and physically able to walk through salt marshes and other
difficult terrain. APCC will make reasonable accommodations for otherwise
qualified applicants who have a physical handicap.

Housing is not included in any APCC internship program. APCC will assist
interns in locating housing, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the
intern.

Applicants should submit a resume and letter of interest outlining their
qualifications and illustrating how they will bring this experience back to
the classroom, to info at apcc.org. Applications received prior to April 4,
2014, will be given preference.
