Learn to Survey Shorebirds
Shorebird researcher Brian Harrington will teach this two-part
series, which will introduce you to the science of shorebird
surveying and monitoring and prepare you to participate in citizen
science projects such as the International Shorebird Surveys and
World Shorebirds Day. It is also a good refresher for those already
involved in survey efforts.
Part I is a class on survey techniques, how to estimate numbers,
shorebird identification and more. It will be held on Sunday, August
24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 204 Long Pond Road, Plymouth. For more
information and to register for this free program (space is limited),

Part II is a field trip to put into practice what you learn in Part
I. On August 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Brian Harrington will
lead the group in the systematic counting and identification of the
multitudes of migrating shorebirds that we'll find on Plymouth Long
Beach. We will record the information to be used in citizen science
programs. Preference will be given to those attending Part I. The
cost is $15. Click here - http://www.goldenrod.org/blog/events/learn-to-survey-shorebirds-part-ii
