HEALTH AND SAFETY IN A CHANGING ENVIRONMENT
Because of climate change, new technology, new development, and other reasons, the coastal environment is changing..... Community groups are concerned about environmental health and safety on Cape Cod and in other vulnerable areas. How can neighbors help other?
This year's environmental health and safety fair is scheduled for Saturday, August 16th, in Falmouth...... The event is free. All people are invited..... The August 16th event includes a Red Cross blood drive. If you want to donate blood on August 16th, please make an appointment with the Red Cross...
Telephone: 1-800-733-2767.
The August 16th health fair will take place at the Unitarian Universalist church, 840 Sandwich Road, in east Falmouth.... 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
What's included? The Red Cross blood collection is important, because we're moving into the height of hurricane season and blood supplies are very low... Information about Lyme disease, climate change, coastal floods, hazardous chemicals, and emergency services will be included with the August 16th
event.... The Sierra Club is working with community, religious, and emergency services groups to provide volunteers and other support.
Special attention is given to vulnerable groups in the coastal environment. The very young, the elders, recent immigrants, people with disabilities, etc. These are the people who are sometimes "left behind" during emergencies.
It's a small event... However: As the climate change problem develops, there's a new emphasis on "here and now" responses in the community.
If we can't help our neighbors today, what hope do we provide for the future? The next Hurricane Sandy may soon arrive. What's needed?
