[SEMCO] "Land Conservation on the Cape in the 21st Century" at the OPET Annual Meeting on Thursday, August 14th

Please join us at the Oyster Pond Environmental Trust's Annual Meeting on Thursday, August 14th from 7pm to 9pm. Mark H. Robinson, the Executive Director of The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, will be the featured speaker. He will present a talk titled “ Land Conservation on the Cape in the 21 st Century .” The meeting and talk will be held at the SEA Auditorium at 171 Woods Hole Road. 



Mark has served as Executive Director of the Compact since its inception in 1986. The Compact provides technical assistance to 22 local and regional land trusts operating on Cape Cod, including landowner negotiations, fundraising, land management and state/municipal coordination on open space projects. He has completed over 500 land preservation projects in Massachusetts. The US Environmental Protection Age n cy acknowledged his work with a lifetime achievement award in 2009. 



The Compact is assisting OPET with the purchase of 22 acres of in the headwaters of Oyster Pond, containing wetlands, woodlands, pond shoreline and vernal pools in the Quissett area. This land is the largest remaining undeveloped property in the Oyster Pond watershed and will link together OPET’s Zinn Park with Spohr Garden creating 34 acres of contiguous open space. 



Light refreshments will be served following the meeting. The public is welcome to attend. OPET is a non-profit dedicated to conserving and protecting the natural environment and ecological systems of Oyster Pond in Falmouth.
