invite you to come together

Climate Change: Past and Future Effects on Wildlife
with Maine State Climatologist Dr. George Jacobson
Saturday, October 26, 2 p.m.

How do changes in climate patterns affect animals and plants, particularly here in New England?

What are the implications for available habitat, population distribution, and migratory flyways?

Maine State Climatologist Dr. George Jacobson will examine the history of long-term climate change and how that influences wildlife on Cape Cod. The earth's climate has always been in flux and will continue to change in the future. The dynamics of atmospheric and oceanic circulation are driven by many forces, acting at different frequencies, that act in concert. Now, human activities are exerting pressure on these natural systems on a large scale. In this illustrated presentation, Dr. Jacobson will help us understand how scientists draw from the long-term climate record to predict what the future may bring.
George L. Jacobson is Professor Emeritus of Biology, Ecology, and Climate Change at the University of Maine. Since his arrival in Maine in 1979, Dr. Jacobson has been a member of the Climate Change Institute, and he was Director of the Institute for nearly a decade. During the past 30 years, he has served the university and the State of Maine in many ways, including leading a successful campaign to expand greatly the support for research and development activities.
