HANDS-ON SCIENCE ACTIVITIES OPEN HOUSE ON SATURDAY, MAY 25, AT WOODS
HOLE OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION
How fast does an avalanche move? How does a bath tub vortex form? What
happens to waves when they break? On Saturday, May 25, between 10:00
a.m. - noon and 1:00 -- 3:00 p.m., the newly renovated Geophysical Fluid
Dynamics Laboratory located in the Rinehart Coastal Research Center
<http://www.whoi.edu/graphics/downloads/logos/village_qc_northend.pdf>,
room 101, on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's (WHOI) Quissett
Campus, will host 10 hands-on demonstrations, videos, and poster
displays, with something for all ages to share the excitement of fluid
mechanics and oceanography. The experiments will be 'simple' yet
exciting for a six-year-old child, a high school student, a graduate
student, and the general public. This is an opportunity for the public
to see what 'oceanography' is and what can be done in a fluid dynamics
laboratory. For more information, call the WHOI Information Office at
(508) 289-2252.
