The globally rare "Pine Barrens" eco-region of southeastern Massachusetts supports a number of rare animal and plant species, some of which
occur only here.  This region encompasses the Cape and Islands and extends inland to Mattapoisett, Middleboro & Duxbury.  At sea, the ecosystem includes Mass. Bay, Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay and Nantucket Sound.

Volunteer citizen scientists are urgently needed to conduct field assessments to help prioritize conservation and restoration efforts.  Assessing even one parcel will help.

Free field training will be provided by Ecologist Pat Swain of the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program (NHESP).
