 COASTAL PREPARATIONS FOR EMERGENCIES

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts a difficult hurricane season and NOAA usually gets it right.
If the New England coast is hit by a hurricane, it will probably be at some point between mid-August and Halloween.

What can coastal residents do while waiting for the next Hurricane Sandy?

On Cape Cod, an emergency preparedness fair with a Red Cross blood drive will take place on Saturday, August 17th. This event will take place at the Unitarian Universalist meetinghouse, at 840 Sandwich Road, in East Falmouth. The building is easily accessible for people with disabilities. The emergency preparation events will take place from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. All people are invited.

If you would like to donate blood to assist the Red Cross, please register for an August 17th appointment. Telephone 1-800-733-2767.

The August 17th event will be unusual for several reasons. It's a health and safety fair with a lot of emphasis on climate change and environmental concerns. The Sierra Club is providing support..... The climate change discussion is changing. It has to change. For many families and coastal groups, the question that matters is, "What can we do that's helpful today?" How do we prepare for a difficult hurricane season and for other warm weather problems?

The August 17th event is sponsored by the Falmouth Clergy Association with support from environmental, religious, and community groups.
