RACHEL CARSON ANNIVERSARY
September 27th marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of the book "Silent Spring."
Rachel Carson's classic is often identified with the beginning of the modern movement for environmental protection. "Silent Spring" was written in response to complaints about pesticides use on Long Island and in Massachusetts.
The Unitarian Universalist church in Falmouth, Massachusetts, has a small Rachel Carson Harvest Dinner every year. The dinner honors Carson and her work and it also serves as a fundraiser for the community food pantry that serves needy people in the area. The public is invited.
This year's Rachel Carson dinner will take place on Saturday, September 22, at 6 pm, at the church. A donation of $15 is requested. All of the money raised will be given to the food pantry.
For additional information, call the church office. Telephone: (508) 457-0449.
The Unitarian Universalists on Cape Cod are active in environmental protection work.
The Unitatrian Universalist church is located at 840 Sandwich Road, in East Falmouth.
