THE MARTIN LUTHER KING WEEKEND
What would Martin Luther King say about economic and environmental justice
on the coast of New England? Dr. King wasn't alive for the first Earth
Day. However, at the end of his life, he was working with garbage
collectors in Memphis. He was always concerned about justice in the
environment.
On Saturday morning, January 14th, there will be an unusual event in
Falmouth for the Martin Luther King weekend. Cape Cod residents will step
forward to talk about their economic justice concerns. Environmentalists
are asked to speak about energy issues, wastewater management, coastal
areas
protection, commercial fishing, and other issues that influence local
economics.
The January 14th forum will take place at the main conference room, at the
Falmouth public library, in Falmouth, Massachusetts. The library is
located at 300 Main Street in "downtown Falmouth." The
event begins at 10:00 am and it will end at noon. All people will be
welcomed.
This event is sponsored by Occupy Falmouth. The goal is to identify
local concerns. This is not a
rally for a particular cause and there will not be a debate or an attempt
to reach complete agreement in
January. All people will have an opportunity to speak, although
presentations will be brief, because of time restrictions. It is expected that
different points of view and different concerns will be presented.
The library is easily accessible for people with disabilities. The Jan.
14 event is free. For additional information, please contact Bob
Murphy. _murphydalzell at aol.com_ (mailto:murphydalzell at aol.com)
