Every summer, Three Bays Preservation uses Summer Interns and Summer Rangers to 
help us get our mission out to the general public. The Intern position is an unpaid
position that benefits students in their chosen field of study.  The Ranger position
is a paid position and they act as our eyes and ears out on Dead Neck Island.  Dead
Neck Island is a small barrier beach island off the coast of Osterville and is a
 bird sanctuary.  The island is owned by Three Bays Preservation and the birds are
managed by Mass Audubon Society.  It is only accessible by boat.  We monitor the
 island seven days a week from the end of May through the middle of August (weather
permitting).

If you would like to work here, or you know of someone who would be perfect for 
either a job or an internship, we have included the descriptions below:

Summer Rangers
We are seeking individuals who would be responsible for the following:


* Daily monitoring of Dead Neck Island.  Visitors to the island are required to 
be members of either Three BaysPreservation or Mass Audubon Society.
* Clean-up of the island.  Because Dead Neck is a bird sanctuary,it is very important
to keep it trash free and the fencing needs to be monitored to be sure it remains
intact.
* Water quality monitoring.  We are part of the Mass Estuaries Project and we monitor
at least 4 times during the summer (usually twice in July and twice in August).
* Community Outreach Programs.  We conduct several community outreach programs throughout
the summer.  These programs include Eco-Adventure Tours, Paddlefor the Bays, and
 Bayside Explorers.
* Invasive Aquatic Species Monitoring. At least four times during the summer we 
monitor for invasive aquatic species for the State CZM Office at four different 
sites.
* Oyster Propagation. We help the Town of Barnstable Natural Resources Department
with their Oyster Program.
* Basic requirements are that the rangers be at least 18 years old (interns should
be at least 16 years old), know how to operate a small outboard motor boat, and 
becertified in CPR and Boating Safety.  We offer certification programs here that
can be completed after hiring is finalized.  The suitable candidate would be required
to work weekends as that is the busiest time on the island.  The ability to work
 with the public is a must.  We are on the island to protect it and to ensure the
birds are left alone and their nesting area remains undisturbed by people and their
dogs.
