The Intern position is an unpaid position that benefits students in their chosen field of study. The Ranger position is a paid position and they act as our eyes and ears out on Dead Neck Island. Dead Neck Island is a small barrier beach island off the coast of Osterville and is a bird sanctuary. The island is owned by Three Bays Preservation and the birds are managed by Mass Audubon Society. It is only accessible by boat. We monitor the island seven days a week from the end of May through the middle of August (weather permitting).</span></div>

Visitors to the island are required to be members of either Three Bays</span> <span style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, Palatino">Preservation or Mass Audubon Society.</span></li><li style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, Palatino; COLOR: #000ca5; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><span style="TEXT-DECORATION: underline">Clean-up of the island</span>. Because Dead Neck is a bird sanctuary,it is very important to keep it trash free and the fencing needs to be monitored to be sure it remains intact.</li><li style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, Palatino; COLOR: #000ca5; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><span style="COLOR: #000ca5"><span style="TEXT-DECORATION: underline">Water quality monitoring</span>. We are part of the Mass Estuaries Project and we monitor at least 4 times during the summer (usually twice in July and twice in August</span>).</li><li style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, Palatino; COLOR: #000ca5; FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><span style="TEXT-DECORATION: underline">Community Outreach Programs</span>. We conduct several community outreach programs throughout the summer. These programs include Eco-Adventure Tours, Paddle</span> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt">for the Bays, and Bayside Explorers. </span></li><li style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, Palatino; COLOR: #000ca5; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><span style="TEXT-DECORATION: underline">Invasive Aquatic Species Monitoring</span>. At least four times during the summer we monitor for invasive aquatic species for the State CZM Office at four different sites. </li><li style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, Palatino; COLOR: #000ca5; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><span style="TEXT-DECORATION: underline">Oyster Propagation</span>. We offer certification programs here that can be completed after hiring is finalized. The suitable candidate would be required to work weekends as that is the busiest time on the island.
