[SEMCO] CHASE MILLER POLICY FORUM - Drawing Lines in the Sand: Mapping and Managing Community Aquaculture Development

The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies is pleased to announce the
third lecture in the new Chase Miller Policy Forum.



On Tuesday August 21, Owen Nichols, Director of the Center’s Marine
Fisheries Research program, and Henry Lind, retired Shellfish Biologist and
Director of the Town of Eastham Department of Natural Resources for the
Town of Eastham, will present *“Drawing Lines in the Sand: Mapping and
Managing Community Aquaculture Development.”*



The lecture will take place at 7 pm at the Chatham Community Center, 702
Main Street, Chatham.



Owen Nichols, Director of the Center’s Marine Fisheries Research program,
works to foster collaboration and understanding between commercial
fisheries and scientists, and conducts cooperative research and education
with a focus on scientific and policy issues confronting Cape Cod’s
fishermen and aquaculturists. He is a Research Assistant and PhD candidate
in the Department of Fisheries Oceanography at the University of
Massachusetts.  His current research focus is the distributional ecology of
squid and finfish and implications for fishery management.



Henry Lind worked for 35 years as the Shellfish Biologist and Director of
the Eastham Department of Natural Resources. He developed and ran a
successful shellfish propagation/nursery and hatchery program for the Town
and worked cooperatively with other town shellfish officers, expanding the
use of aquaculture to increase the public the supply of shellfish in Cape
Cod waters.  Henry was a founding member and the current president of the
Eastham Conservation Foundation and is on the Advisory Board of AmeriCorps
Cape Cod. He has been the instructor for a multi-week course: *Fundamentals
of Shellfish Farming: Practical Tools, Tips & Techniques*, sponsored by the
Southeastern Massachusetts Aquaculture Center, Cape Cod Cooperative
Extension and the Woods Hole Sea Grant Program.



The Chase Miller Policy Forum is a series of free lectures and discussions
designed to educate the public on the role of science in public policy as
it relates to the marine environment. This forum was made possible by the
