*Description:*
This all-day event will bring together international marine spatial
planning experts to discuss what is being learned from the practice from
the more mature initiatives and better understand the implications of
different approaches to the task. Panelists from around the globe,
including Norway, United Kingdom, France, The Netherlands, Germany,
Canada, and the United States, will discuss topics including how does
marine spatial planning affect economic, ecological, and regulatory
issues as well as options for structuring the governance system,
integrating science and local knowledge in the planning and analysis
process, and bridging the gap between planning and the implementation of
a marine spatial plan. A summary of the Symposium will be prepared for
wide distribution. This event builds on the success of the Marine
Planning International Workshop, hosted by the Marine Management
Organisation (UK) in February 2011.
