The Waquoit Bay Research Reserve will host their annual Block Party on Tuesday, August 2nd, from 3:00-6:30 PM at Reserve Headquarters on Route 28 in East Falmouth. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to learn about what's going on in the community. Activities include games, arts and crafts, science demonstrations with local scientists, fly fishing demonstration and instruction, and a touch tank full of critters from the bay!
Many local organizations will have hands-on activities for kids and provide valuable information on what they are doing to help protect our natural resources. Some of the participating organizations include the Sierra Club, Mass Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, Mass Dept. of Conservation and Recreation, FACES, Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge, National Marine Life Center, Inc., Citizens for the Protection of Waquoit Bay, Cape Cod Children's Museum, G-Design, Cotuit Solar, Three Bays Preservation, Cape Wildlife Center and WHOI Sea Grant. Organizations will highlight practical information on ecological landscaping, land conservation, groundwater issues and nature crafts.
Green Briar Nature Center will join the fun at 4:30pm with live Cape Cod Amphibians and Reptiles show. Join one of our staff and former fly-fishing instructor for some hands-on demonstrations for the whole family, with an adults only lesson at 5:00pm.
The event is sponsored by the Citizens for the Protection of Waquoit Bay. Kenyon's Market and Smitty's Homemade Ice Cream will generously provide complimentary refreshments. Everyone is welcome to bring along a picnic to enjoy overlooking beautiful Waquoit Bay. The Reserve's headquarters are located at 149 Waquoit Highway/Route 28 E. Falmouth. For additional information, please call 508-457-0495 x108.
