Saving stranded whales and dolphins is subject of first presentation in
summer lecture series at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.

Cape Cod is a global hotspot for marine mammal strandings with over 200
strandings occurring annually since 1999. Our region is also one of the
few places where mass strandings of whales and dolphins occur. On
Wednesday, July 27 at 7:30 pm, C.T. Harry, Assistant Stranding
Coordinator for International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), will
present at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary about the unique biology
and natural history of our common whale and dolphin species and discuss
how IFAW's stranding response team works to save as many marine mammals
as possible.

This is the first presentation in the "Bayside Talk" series hosted by
Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary that focuses on
scientists who are studying the life journeys of fascinating marine and
coastal species, the dangers these animals face, and how we can improve
their chances for survival. The entire series is as follows:

July 27: Whales and Dolphins, C.T. Harry, IFAW

August 3: Sharks: Migration and Movements in Western North Atlantic, Dr.
Brad Wetherbee, University of Rhode Island

August 10: Piping Plovers, Dr. Kathy Parson, Mass Audubon

August 17: Leatherback Sea Turtles, Dr. Connie Merigo, New England
Aquarium

All talks start at 7:30 pm and are held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife
Sanctuary. Cost is $5 for Mass Audubon and members, $7 for non-members.
Pre-registration is required. Drop-ins are welcome, space permitting.
The sanctuary is located at 291 State Highway Rte. 6, South Wellfleet.
To register please contact the sanctuary at 508-349-2615.
