_Upcoming Exhibit at the Guyer Art Barn!_

_Paperdolls_

Come celebrate Kiana's exploration of the self portrait through drawing.
All work was created during Kiana's interniship at the Barn where she worked
closely with mentor and Barn director, Mellissa Morris.

Reception time:
_Friday - January 7th, 5-7PM_
Light refreshments to be served.

_Sign your child up for a class at the Barn!_

_Objects and Colors_
For ages 8-12

_Saturday mornings from 9:45-10:45_
Begins: January 8th, 2011
Ends: February 12th, 2011

This class will focus on the fundamental properties of drawing, color
theory, and composition. Through still life objects, students will learn how
to see and explore visual language with the medium of paint. This class
builds technical ability, improves problem solving skills, and is a great
expressive outlet for creativity.

$13.00 per class or sign up for the 6 week course - $70.00  *Supplies not
included

Supplies List:  Pad of painting or drawing paper- 18”x24”
                       Black or white Conte crayon 2-4 pieces
                       A variety of paint brushes ranging from 1”-5” wide
                       Apron or an old T-shirt

_Cezanne's Truth in Painting_
A lecture by Mary Moquin

The Barn is very excited to be hosting "Cezanne's Truth in Painting," a
lecture by Cape artist, Mary Moquin.  Come listen to Mary present
information on our favorite French post-impressionist painter who has been
credited with laying the conceptual foundation for 20th century art.  Come
mingle with your fellow artists!

The Barn asks for a 3 dollar donation, if possible.

"Cezanne’s quest for the “truth in painting” led him on a deep investigation
of the 'space and place' of his allegiance. The place in particular, was
MontSainte-Victoire.  Through his quest for its spiritual essence he was
lead to uncover 'the harmonious oneness and the creativity of being."

_Mixed Media Class for Teens_

Tuesday Evenings from 4-6PM

Through the use of live models and still life subjects, students will
explore their imagination and personal interpretation while experimenting
many different media.

_Adult Figure Drawing_

Tuesday Evenings from 6:30-8:30PM
Ongoing

Come explore the live figure with a group of your peers in a class setting
led by Sarah Holl.  Every class ends with a critique.  This class is ongoing
so drop in any time to see what's going on!

Each session is $20.

_Call to Artists and Artisans!_

_7th Annual Harbor Your Arts Summer Shanty Program_

The Town of Barnstable is looking for artists and artisans interested in
selling their artwork as a part of the 7th season of  the Harbor Your Arts
Summer Shanty program on Hyannis Harbor. _New  application deadline –
extended to January 21, 2011._  All artwork will be juried.  Artist jury and
selections will begin in January 2011.

The artist shanties are open weekends mid-May through mid-June and then
seven days a week through the first weekend in October.  Each season the
shanties feature new and returning artists featuring everything from
handmade glass beads and wire jewelry, paintings in every medium, wood
carving, fine Cape Cod crafts, fiber arts, mosaics, ceramics, tapestry, rope
work and much more.

The Guyer Art Barn is pleased to participate in the _Cape-wide arts
initiative, Arts & Conversation_, sponsored by the Alzheimer's Services of
Cape Cod & the Islands, Inc. Facilitators provide a series of moderated
conversations stimulated by artwork for those with Alzheimer's disease or a
related dementia and their family caregivers. The free program is held
several times each month in sixteen different galleries, museums and other
venues including the Guyer Art Barn, which hosts the group on the second
Thursday of each month. A list of locations, dates and times can be found on
the Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, Inc. webpage or by
calling 508-775-5656.

_Artists work at 50 Pearl Street
Open most Saturdays, weekdays by chance and ALWAYS by appointment!_

The artist work studios at 50 Pearl are home to six local artists whose
works are as individual as the artists who create them! Current artists
include Melanie Chartier, Carole Ann Danner, Jenny Fragosa, Sandra Ginnis
and Molly Driscoll.  Art mediums include printmaking, oils, encaustics and
ceramics.

The artists host open studios and other events throughout the year. This
July and August, the artists will host open studios every Thursday, complete
with interesting entertaiment and refreshments.

The artist work studios at 50 Pearl are located on the campus of the Shirley
Blair Flynn Center for the Creative Arts located at the corner of Pearl and
South Streets in Hyannis providing artist living, work and gallery space.
The campus includes the historic Guyer Art Barn, artist in residence Sarah
Holl’s ArtSpace and artist work studios.

Sarah Holl’s passion is evident in her vibrant, colorful paintings. She is
an ardent and talented professional artist who has worked in both clay and
paint for over 20 years. Sarah’s daily life revolves around art making and
community involvement within the arts. She teaches weekly figure drawing
classes at the Guyer Barn.  This combination of dedication and originality
has allowed Sarah to carve an artistic path for herself marked by challenge
and change, two defining ingredients for a successful career in the arts.

Sarah is a creative force. A visit to Artspace offers one the opportunity
for fabulous conversation and time to take in the unique, beautiful works of
art and the home itself, built in 1920 and complete with a resident ghost,
according to Sarah!

The Guyer Art Barn is a showcase for emerging and established local artists
in a wide variety of genres. It is a community art space – a working artist
studio and professional artist gallery supporting and promoting the arts
where visitors gather year round to enjoy changing exhibitions, classes and
workshops. The Guyer Barn was built in 1865 comes with an interesting
history and sits on the the campus of town owned properties known as the
Shirley Blair Flynn Center for the Performing Arts.
