ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE CELEBRATION

Every year since 2001, environmentalists and others have gathered on New
Years Day for an unusual celebration in Woods Hole. Individuals promise
to do their best to protect coastal areas and to improve community life in
coastal cities and towns. Here's the plan for January 1, 2012.

INTERFAITH SERVICE: Starts at 11:00 am, at the Woods Hole Community
Hall, on Water Street, in Woods Hole. All people are invited. The main
speaker will be Rev. Bob Murphy. He's the first religious leader to
receive an award from the national Sierra Club because of his religious work.
 Rev. Murphy
will speak on the subject, "Economic and Environmental Justice."

COMMUNITY EVENTS: At noon, the group will begin its annual walk around
Eel Pond. This is a family event and children, especially, are invited.
Bring cameras, holiday flags, and noisemakers.... Everybody gets to
shout "Happy New Years!" to the world.... We'll pause at the water's
edge to "toast the coast"
with non-alcoholic beverages. Afterwards, there will be a potluck
party at the Community Hall.

All activities are free. Nothing will be sold. The Community Hall is
easily accessible for people with
disabilities..... Information about economic and environmental justice
activities will be on display and
there will be opportunities to talk with people who are concerned about
these subjects.

Special thanks to the Sierra Club's Cape Cod and Islands Group for its
support.
