Sea Turtles in Massachusetts Waters

With Bob Prescott, Director of the Massachusetts Audubon Society's Wellfleet
Bay

Wildlife Sanctuary

Bob Prescott, Director of the Massachusetts Audubon Society's Wellfleet Bay
Wildlife Sanctuary, will be talking about and showing images of Sea Turtles
in Massachusetts waters with an emphasis on sea turtles around the Cape and
the annual cold stunning episodes. He will be focusing on and discussing the
natural history of Kemps' Ridley, Green, Loggerhead and Leatherback sea
turtles in our waters. Who would have guessed that Nantucket Sound, Cape Cod
and Buzzards Bay were such important nursery habitat for juvenile sea
turtles. We'll look at what sea turtles eat while they are here as well as
discover where they are coming from and where they are going. Bob will talk
about and show images of a sea turtle necropsy.

He will have sea turtle skulls, shells and other artifacts on display. There
will be time for questions and answers at the end of the program.

Bob Prescott is the director of the Massachusetts Audubon Society's
Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary located on Cape Cod where he has been
actively involved in coastal issues and research. Bob has a degree in
Wildlife Biology from the University of Massachusetts and has studied such
diverse topics as whale strandings, seal distribution around Cape Cod and,
most recently, home range of box turtles. Bob also is the Southeastern
Massachusetts coordinator for the Northeast Sea Turtle Stranding Network.
His particular interest is in coastal ecosystems and the wildlife, both
vertebrate and invertebrates, associated with them.

He is also on the Technical Advisory Committee and Board of the Orleans Pond
Coalition and the board of the Orleans Conservation Trust.
