ENERGY, GLOBAL WARMING, and RELIGION

Religious organizations are becoming increasingly involved in discussions
about energy policy and
global climate change. Several events will take place on Cape Cod in
October.

The Unitarian Universalist church in Falmouth will devote two Sunday
morning services to presentations about energy policy, global warming, and
religion. The public is invited to both services.

OCTOBER 3rd: The main speaker will be Donna Oglesby, who teaches
international politics at Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr.
Oglesby was a US Foreign Service officer for many years. She will discuss
organized religion's involvement with global warming concerns. The Sunday
service will begin at 9:30 am. The church is located at 840 Sandwich Road, in
east Falmouth.

OCTOBER 10th: Rev. Robert Murphy will speak about religion and energy
justice. Rev. Murphy has worked with human rights and environmental justice
organizations for many years. In July, the national Sierra Club sent
Rev. Murphy to Ethiopia, to study the ways in which developing nations are
responding to climate change problems. Murphy has a masters degree in public
health. The Sunday service will begin at 9:30 am. For
information, please call the church office. PHONE: (508) 457-0449.

On October 10th, there will be a community presentation at the Unitarian
Universalist church that will
focus attention on energy justice strategies for Cape Cod and islands
communities. Three questions will be asked. "How much energy do we need?"
"How can we support community-based systems that
produce clean and sustainable energy?" "How can we help the needy meet
their energy needs?"

The community presentation will begin at 7:00 pm. All people are
invited. Free.

                                                              - END -
