Director, Cape Wildlife Center
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest
animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Director for its Cape
Wildlife Center. The main responsibilities of this position are to
manage the operations and fiscal activities of the Cape Wildlife Center,
assist in development of strategic plans and standardized business
practices, enhance visibility and outreach through promotion of the
center, manage fundraising and development efforts to achieve
sustainability, prepare and monitor budgets and provide direction on
programs and facilities. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
oversee all functions associated with the management of Cape Wildlife
Center; supervise and/or delegate duties of facility management,
maintenance of assets, procurement of supplies and materials and
maintenance of licenses and permits, insure operational compliance with
all regulatory agencies; supervise full-time and part time employees as
needed, maintain all records, provide and seek out training
opportunities, coordinate scheduling and ensure efficiently run
operations; responsible for fundraising by developing, cultivating, and
retaining donor base to achieve revenue goals and sustainability;
develop business partners and build relationships with major donors,
foundations, constituents, and the public at large; generate public and
donor interests, provide and coordinate presentations, media contact and
speaker to groups and individuals, informing audiences of the broad work
of the Cape Wildlife Center to solicit support; drive development of all
aspects of communications with publications and online materials and
websites; advise on and participate in the management and overall
direction of functions associated with live animal care at other
HSUS/FFA facilities. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent, five years of
fundraising experience in a not-for-profit environment, and
management/supervisory experience highly desired. Ability to budget
development and oversight for $1,000,000 plus organization(s); must be
able to safely operate animal transport equipment; supervisory
experience of 5 or more employees all highly desired. Commitment to the
goals and programs of the HSUS with the highest quality, humane animal
care and handling, excellent interpersonal and animal observation skills
preferred. Must have or obtain and maintain an up-to-date rabies
prophylaxis and titer, work outdoors in variable and sometimes extreme
weather conditions and with a variety of animals, perform occasional
long workdays (up to 12 hours) and maintain focus, accuracy and physical
activities required by job and ability to work independently and
maintain good communication with other HSUS staff. The salary range for
this position is from the low $60's to the low $70's. Please send cover
