Wastewater Planning

A discussion with Judith Bruce,

a founder and past president of the Orleans Pond Coalition

at 1:30pm

Judith Bruce, a founder and past president of the Orleans Pond Coalition,
will discuss the basics of wastewater planning: what constitutes
wastewater, how it enters the groundwater and where it goes, what a Title V
septic system will and won't do, why we need to be concerned about nutrient
loading of our fresh and saltwater ponds and drinking water supplies, what
approaches we can take to clean up our act.

Judith specializes in "all things excrement" having spent eight years on
Orleans Wastewater Planning Steering Committee, coordinating the Orleans
Pond Coalition's Mutt Mitt program, volunteering for Sue Finnegan's bird
banding program on Wing Island. She has been sampling 10 freshwater ponds
and 1 marine station for 10 years, is a founder and past president of the
Orleans Pond Coalition, serves on the Orleans Conservation Commission and
Orleans Water and Sewer Board, and co-coordinates the Harwich Nestbox
Trails. She's an avid kayaker and committed to preserving the precious
natural resources of Cape Cod.
