GULF OF MEXICO GATHERING ON CAPE COD
Cape Cod residents will gather on Sunday night, August 29th, to acknowledge
the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The summer of 2010 has seen
a series of environmental tragedies - including heat waves, floods, and
droughts - and their impact on coastal communities will be discussed.
This event is sponsored by the Sierra Club's Cape Cod and Islands Group
with support from community and faith groups. The August 29th gathering
will take place at 7:00 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist church in Falmouth.
The church is located at 840 Sandwich Road in Falmouth. The event is
free and all people are invited. The church office has additional
information. Telephone: (508) 457-0449.
A brief movie about the impact of the BP oil spill will be shown.
The possibility of sending a team of volunteers to New Orleans to assist
with environmental justice work will be discussed. The national Sierra
Club and various religious groups are involved in environmental rescue
programs in New Orleans and along the Louisiana coast.
