The Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association cordially invites teachers from
Southeastern Massachusetts, to a teacher workshop entitled: Exploring
Cranberries, a web-based curriculum, which is free. Please consider joining
us for a one day teacher workshop, being held in Foxboro, Plympton and
Sandwich, Massachusetts, with three Saturdays to choose from: May 1st, May
15th and May 22nd from 7:30 am to 4pm. The Cape Cod Cranberry Growers'
Association is proud to offer this new curriculum entitled Exploring
Cranberries. Attached please find the teacher registration and the
necessary information related to various locations that this curriculum is
being offered. There will be 10 PDP's award.

When initiating this curriculum project, Cape Cod Cranberry Growers'
Association took careful consideration to ensure that significant values
would be gained by the students when implementing this new curriculum to
your classroom. Exploring Cranberries meets MCAS standards, state and
federal requirements through implementing 21st Century skills.

Educators must be protective of their time, given the pressures of meeting
curriculum requirements and educational standards. Exploring Cranberries
offers educators the opportunity to help their students not only meet
particular learning standards and curriculum goals, but also to connect to
the science, the heritage, and the history of an important, local
agricultural system - the cranberry bog. Many of our students in
Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod either live next to, or near by a
cranberry bog. Often they drive by and witness the various seasonal changes
on the bog; families enjoy walking the cranberry bog while enjoying its
beautiful panorama and many students have a family member that, in some way,
is connected to cranberry agriculture. Exploring Cranberries not only brings
the cranberry bog to students, but also instills a rich appreciation and
deeper understanding of the cranberry bog as a thriving and vibrant
ecosystem. All lessons are standards based and integrated among different
content strands.

Exploring Cranberries engages students in the day to day life and decision
making of a cranberry grower. After learning about the cranberry, its
history, its habitat and eventually "adopting" their own bog, students are
able to reflect upon certain important farming practices and make critical
decisions to manage their bog effectively.

The educator workshops in May will guide teachers through all the components
of this free online curriculum and help them identify connections to state
and national educational learning standards.

Workshop requirements: Optional to bring your laptops with DVD capabilities,
comfortable warm clothing to accommodate layering for May weather, and a
camera if you have one.

Teachers will visit a local cranberry bog making connections to learning,
through listening, seeing, touching and observations of various activities.

Please come and meet the curriculum developers and a 4th generation
cranberry grower/project manager. The workshop fee is $25.00, please
contact: Dawn Gates-Allen, Communications Manager at 508-866-7878 x12 or
email at: dgatesallen at cranberries.org. The registration form is included
below or visit www.cranberries.org <http://www.cranberries.org/> to
