Hiking for Terrapin Hatchlings on Sandy Neck

Last summer, we caught a glimpse of a rare Diamondback Terrapin female
who had just laid her eggs. This fall we will be searching Sandy Neck
for tiny tracks of hatchling terrapins, as they make the treacherous
journey from their sandy dune nests to the safety of the marsh.

Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the north side of Rt 6a in
Barnstable.  Trails are open daily dawn to dusk.  Sanctuary admission is
free for members; $4 adults, $3 children for non-members. Call (508)
