On Wednesday, April 8 at 2 pm the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History
presents a
Book Discussion on Timothy, or Notes of an Abject Reptile by Verlyn
Klinkenborg in the Clarence Hay Library. The discussion leader is Marcia
Dalton. The program is free to the public.
This unique commentary on human and natural affairs is seen through the
sensibility of Timothy, a wise and gentle tortoise, who lived for thirteen
years in the garden of Gilbert White, English naturalist (1720-1793).
According to Mr. Klinkenborg, "Timothy's language and opinions are her own
(note: Timothy was a female), except where she borrows - silently - from the
Gilbert White's journals."
What is on the mind of an observant tortoise, as constructed by this
marvelous writer who gave a voice to nature through his books Making Hay,
The Last Fine Time and The Rural Life? Come and join a memorable discussion
with Marcia Dalton, professor at Cape Cod Community College.
Copies of Timothy, or Notes of an Abject Reptile can be found at the
Museum's Clarence Hay Library and through CLAMS.
