On Wednesday, April 8 at </span></font>2 pm the Cape Cod Museum of Natural
History presents a<br>
Book Discussion on <b><i><span style='font-weight:bold;font-style:italic'>Timothy,
or Notes of an Abject Reptile</span></i></b> by Verlyn Klinkenborg in the
Clarence Hay Library. The discussion leader is Marcia Dalton. The program is
free to the public.<br>
<br>
This unique commentary on human and natural affairs is seen through the
sensibility of Timothy, a wise and gentle tortoise, who lived for thirteen
years in the garden of Gilbert White, English naturalist <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>(</span></b>1720-1793). According to Mr. Klinkenborg,
“Timothy’s language and opinions are her own (note: Timothy was a
female), except where she borrows – silently – from the Gilbert
White’s journals.”<br>
<br>
What is on the mind of an observant tortoise, as constructed by this marvelous
writer who gave a voice to nature through his books <i><span style='font-style:
italic'>Making Hay</span></i>, <i><span style='font-style:italic'>The Last Fine
Time</span></i> and <i><span style='font-style:italic'>The Rural Life</span></i>?
Come and join a memorable discussion with Marcia Dalton, professor at Cape Cod Community
College.<br>
<br>
Copies of <b><i><span style='font-weight:bold;font-style:italic'>Timothy, or
Notes of an Abject Reptile </span></i></b>can be found at the Museum’s
Clarence Hay Library and through CLAMS.<br>
