14th Annual CAPE COD NATURAL HISTORY CONFERENCE
Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Cape Cod Community College
Presented by Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary & the
Environmental Technology Program at Cape Cod Community College with
support from Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank
How and where have Cape Codders protected important natural communities
using Land Bank funds? Are right whales getting enough to eat in Cape
Cod Bay? How will regional surveys of horseshoe crabs guide fisheries
management? How do the larva of shellfish develop and how can this
knowledge inform aquaculture efforts? And what kinds of orchids can be
found on Cape Cod?
Questions like these, and many more, will be explored at the 14th Annual
Cape Cod Natural History Conference on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the
Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable, Massachusetts. The
conference will feature sixteen brief presentations by individuals from
environmental organizations, agencies, and colleges across Cape Cod and
Massachusetts and several poster exhibits. All of those presenting have
deep involvement in their particular area of expertise concerning the
status, behavior, and ecology of Cape Cod plants, animals or natural
communities, and current environmental issues. For a schedule visit our
website at
http://www.massaudubon.org/Nature_Connection/Sanctuaries/Wellfleet/news.
php and click on "Special Events" and download the form.
Now in its fourteenth year, the conference allows environmental
organizations to learn about each other's research and to exchange
ideas. At the same time, it is an opportunity for the public to learn
first-hand about some compelling subjects relating to Cape Cod's
ecology, natural history, and conservation.
Participants will be able to ask questions as time permits and receive a
summary of the presentations. There will be a lunch break
(bring-your-own) as well as two shorter breaks in the day for
participants to interact with the speakers and to review poster
exhibits. The cost to attend the conference is $20 for advance
registration, or $25 walk-in fee. Advance registration is highly
encouraged.
