Folk for Feathers Festival! An outdoor concert at Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary in Cummaquid (Barnstable), Saturday, August 8th, 4:00 pm
Greg Greenway and Jake Armerding perform in concert to benefit Long Pasture and the Coastal Waterbird Program. See www.massaudubon.org/cwp for more info and link to flyer
Join us for the second annual Folk for Feathers Festival, an afternoon of festivities, food, and a concert on the lawn at Long Pasture overlooking scenic Barnstable Harbor. We're happy to host Cape Cod favorite, Greg Greenway and back by popular demand, Boston's own Jake Armerding, with local band "Just Another Guru" performing an opening set. This event will be a great opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy world class acoustic music in a spectacular setting.
We encourage people to bring lawn chairs or blankets, have a picnic on the lawn and take a walk around the trails. Dinner, drinks, and desserts will be available for sale from Cape Cup Café of Orleans. We'll have a raffle with special donated prizes and proceeds from the Folk for Feathers Festival will benefit Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary and the Coastal Waterbird Program.
Greg Greenway (www.greggreenway.com) is both a local favorite and a nationally-touring musician whose time on the road means his Cape Cod appearances are rare, and to be treasured. Put simply, he is one of the finest entertainers you'll ever see. Musically, he draws inspiration from all over the map -- gospel, rock, blues, Jazz, and world music. He has been described as "one of the strongest, and finest voices in folk music."
With multi-instrumentalist Jake Armerding (www.jakearmerding.com) artfully improvising on mandolin, violin, and guitar, one never knows what magical musical moments will happen. The Boston Globe calls Jake Armerding "the most gifted and promising songwriter to emerge from the Boston folk scene in years." We're excited to welcome Jake back to the Folk for Feathers stage. Last year, Jake surprised the Folk for Feathers audience with the debut of his song written for the Coastal Waterbird Program called "Little Nation"
(http://www.massaudubon.org/mp3/LittleNation_JakeArmerding.mp3). This unique night of music will be full of surprises and spontaneous creative collaborations.

Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary
Long Pasture is a 110-acre sanctuary - a haven for many species of wildlife that inhabit the ponds, vernal pools, buttonbush swamp, salt marsh, and fields. The sanctuary hosts numerous educational and community events, including lectures, guided walks, and kayak trips, and is rapidly becoming an important conservation education destination on the mid-Cape. Long Pasture is also the base for Mass Audubon's operations on the mid and upper Cape and home to the Cape Cod Center for Bird Conservation and the Coastal Waterbird Program.
Coastal Waterbird Program
Mass Audubon's Coastal Waterbird Program (CWP) is one of the most effective entities working to protect coastal birds and barrier beaches in New England. The CWP was launched in 1987 in response to declining populations of piping plovers and terns in Massachusetts, with the primary objective of protecting these species' nesting areas throughout the state. Since its first year, the program has successfully helped to recover the populations of piping plovers from 135 pairs in 1986 to over 560 in 2008. We also work to protect the natural quality of the state's coastal beaches, salt marshes, and tidelands through research, advocacy, and habitat restoration.
