Chatham seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant
Conservation Agent/Environmental Technician. The responsibilities of the
position include representing the Town in matters pertaining to the
Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the Chatham Wetlands
Protection Bylaw, assisting the Conservation Agent with technical and
administrative work of the Conservation Division, review of project
proposals, performing site visits to assure compliance with applicable
laws, conservation land management, development and dissemination of
public education materials, collecting field samples, performing field
and laboratory tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting
the Citizens Water Quality Monitoring Program. The position requires a
valid driver's license and reliable transportation to perform site
visits. Qualifications for the position include a Bachelor's of Science
degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resources, or a
related field plus at least two years of experience in wetland
protection or management of public land, and field and laboratory
testing and monitoring. Past experience in the administration of the MA
Wetlands Protection Act desirable. Ability to communicate effectively
orally and in writing with town officials, other government agencies and
general public. Ability to collect and analyze samples, perform site
inspections in the field, including reading site plans and evaluating
projects which will involve frequent walking, climbing, reaching,
bending and lifting objects to 50 pounds. Ability to handle small boats,
i.e. canoes. Application deadline is January 30, 2009. The rate of pay
for the position starts at $1,858.40 bi-weekly plus benefits.
