Fall for Harwich HCT Walks 2009
Saturday, September 12, 8:30-10:00 am Botanical Walk. Join Bob Zaremba, for a botanical walk through marsh and bog, uplands and cedar swamp at Coy’s Brook Woodlands. From Harwich Center go west on Great Western Rd. Turn left on Lothrop. Park in parking lot on the right just past the water tower.
Sunday, September 13, 10:00 am A Walk in the Hawksnest Woods with Commentary , Join veteran walk leader Irwin Schorr as he interprets the six ponds area. From Route 6, Exit 11, go west on Spruce Rd. Park on the shoulder of Spruce Rd. near the intersection with Hawksnest Rd. (not marked).
Tuesday, September 15 , 2pm. Red River: Coastal Ecology and Migratory Shorebirds
Learn how coastal estuaries support migratory shorebirds with naturalist Todd Kelley of www.kelleytrailblazer.com. From Rt 28, go south on Uncle Venie’s Rd.Meet at the eastern end of Red River Beach parking lot.
Wednesday, September 16, 10 am , Open Trail Day at Cedar Spring Herb Farm. Walk the endangered medicinal plant trail with herbalist Donna Wood Eaton, and observe fall in a vernal pool and white cedar swamp. From Exit 10, go north on Rt 124. Turn Right on Long Pond Drive . Herb Farm is on Right at 159 Long Pond Drive.
Sunday, September 20, 10 am .Monomoy River: Critical Habitat Conservation.

Tuesday, September 22, 3:30 pm Early Successional Walk at Thompson’s Field Join naturalist Ryan Mann as he interprets this reconverting farm land. From Harwich Center go east on Rt 39 to Chatham Rd. Meet at Chatham Rd. parking lot, which is on the left.
Sunday, September 27 , 3-5:00 pm Wildlands Musical Stroll Self-guided stroll through Bell’s Neck Conservation Area., with local musicians placed along the way. From Harwich Center take Great Western Road west. Parking is on the right at Sand Pond.
Saturday, October 3, 10 am Old Colony Railroad and Harwich Commercial Cranberry Bogs. Join naturalist Todd Kelley of www.kelleytrailblazer.com to learn about the Old Colony Railroad on Cape Cod and its connection to commercial cranberry bogs in Harwich as you walk to Cahoons Canal and Pleasant Lake Village. From Exit 10 go north on Route 124. Turn left onto Headwater’s Drive. Meet at the rail trail parking lot.
Sunday, October 4, 5:45 pm Sunset Full Moon Walk Join walk leader, Peggy Rose, to watch the moon rise over Nantucket Sound at Red River Beach , South Harwich. Go south at the intersection of Depot Rd and Route 28 on Uncle Venie’s Rd. Park at eastern end of Red River Beach Parking Lot.
