NEW: 'Coastal Conservation Commission Training: Making Decisions Based on Law
and Science'
The Woods Hole Sea Grant Program partnered with the Massachusetts Association of
Conservations to create the web-based training module, 'Coastal Conservation
Commission Training: Making Decisions Based on Law and Science'.
The training module includes descriptions of:
* The Law: The regulatory authority of conservation commissions;
* The science: A technical explanation of how Massachusetts' coastal landforms
were formed (glacial geology), a description of the fundamental principles of
physical coastal processes and the beneficial functions of coastal landforms;
* The Regulations: A detailed explanation of the performance standards in the
state Wetlands Protection Regulations for all protected coastal resource areas;
and,
* Who's who in the Massachusetts coastal community.
Funding was provided by the National Sea Grant Law Center.
Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, LEC Environmental Consultants Inc, and
ENSR/AECOM provided technical support in developing workshop training material.
In addition the the above organizations, Rubin & Rudman LLP, and MCZM
participated in the presentations.
