March 12th:
Sandy Macfarlane - As one of the first town shellfish biologists in the
state of Massachusetts, Sandy has spent many years working on the water and
advocating for the protection of water resources and habitats in
southeastern New England. She is the author of the books Rowing Forward,
Looking Back: Shellfish and the Tides of Change at the Elbow of Cape Cod and
Tiggie: The Lure and Lore of Commercial Fishing in New England.
March 19th:
Scott Landry -
Scott is a biologist and illustrator working in the field of marine
conservation for 20 years. He currently works with the Large Whale
Disentanglement Program at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies,
where he uses illustration to study whale entanglement and devise
disentanglement action plans. His illustrations have been used in scientific
publications and conservation outreach campaigns, nationally and abroad.
Some of his more recent illustrations appeared in The Urban Whale, by Kraus
and Rolland.
March 26th:
Shareen Davis - A native Cape Codder, Shareen was born into a fishing
family, married a fisherman, fished and has remained active in fisheries
advocacy throughout her life. She is also a phenomenal photographer.
Whether shooting photos for feature stories in the Cape Cod Voice or taking
stunning photos of marine life and fishermen, Shareen has always looked to
her experiences on the seas as a source of inspiration for her vision.
April 2nd:
Mark Alan Lovewell - Mark is a descendant of an old New England whaling
family, which could explain his love for maritime history, seafaring tales
and music. Now based on Martha's Vineyard, he enjoys singing sea chanties -
traditional maritime work and folk songs - and entertaining audiences with
his stories that celebrate the rich maritime heritage of New England.
