PCCS HOSTS FREE LECTURE SERIES

*(PROVINCETOWN, CAPE COD, MA)* - On Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 7 p.m.,
PCCS will host a panel-style discussion on Cape Cod's fisheries with PCCS
Marine Fisheries Initiative director, Owen Nichols, and local fishermen. The
lecture is part of a free lecture series held throughout November and
December by PCCS at the Hiebert Marine Lab, located at 5 Holway Avenue in
Provincetown. Panelists will discuss the history of fishing on Cape Cod,
the state of our fisheries today, and the future of our fisheries tomorrow.
PCCS scientists hope this lecture will provide an opportunity for the public
to learn about the heritage of our fishing communities, the challenges
facing modern fishermen, and insight on how we can work together in the
future.

Fishermen who are interested in sharing information about their trade with
the public are encouraged to participate in the panel – please call
508-487-3622 Ext. 103.

The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies (PCCS) is a nonprofit
organization dedicated to preserving marine mammals and ecosystems in the
Gulf of Maine through research, education, public policy initiatives, and
management strategies. PCCS delivers measurable results including
establishment of the Atlantic Large Whale Disentanglement Network, rescuing
over 97 large whales from entanglement since 1984 and continuous work to
develop whale-safe fishing gear. PCCS played a key role in the federal
designation of Stellwagen Bank as a national marine sanctuary and Cape Cod
Bay as a critical habitat for the North Atlantic right whale. To learn
