Please join the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies scientists and naturalists in celebrating Earth Day with a walk to Race Point light house, tomorrow, Wednesday, April 23 to look for and watch endangered large whales.

Our aerial survey team recorded nearly 60 right whales in Cape Cod Bay yesterday. As of this morning, there were several dozen critically endangered north Atlantic right whales, humpback whales, and finback whales feeding in the waters off Race Point and Herring Cove, some of them very close to shore.

Join us to watch these spectacular animals as they feed on rich patches of plankton and fish.

We will be meeting at the Herring Cove Beach Parking lot at 945 for a 10AM departure. We will return around 2 PM.

We will be walking 45-60 minutes each way, on pavement through the dunes, across the dike road, and finally on soft sand near the lighthouse. Please bring water, binoculars, sunblock and if you'd like, a brown bag lunch to enjoy while we are out there. Wear comfortable shoes and bring layers of clothes, as it can be cooler near the water.

Directions to Herring Cove Beach: Route 6 to Provincetown follow the signs to Herring Cove Beach.
>From Route 6, turn right on Province Land Road.
Take your first left into Herring Cove Beach.
Take the right past the entrance booth and follow all the way to the end near the bathrooms.

Feel free to email today with any questions.

I hope to see you tomorrow...

Happy Earth Day--get outdoors and celebrate!
