Earth Day Coffee House at the Waquoit Bay Reserve

Come out on Saturday, April 19, 2008 to the Waquoit Bay Research Reserve
to celebrate Earth Day. Musical performances by singer-songwriters John
and Rachel Nicholas, Hugh O'Doherty and Denny Williams will energize and
inspire the crowd. Falmouth Academy junior, poet Maia ten Brink will
share a reading of one of her essays and a poem or two. The setting in
the old mansion on the Sargent Estate turns the Reserve's Visitor Center
into a cozy venue with steaming hot coffee and tea and homemade
desserts, especially now that the main room has been newly redecorated
with framed original artwork as part of a yearlong celebration of the
Reserve's twentieth anniversary.

Local favorites Rachel and John Nicholas, formerly known as Dreamwork,
have been performing together since 1989. While individually their
voices are soulful and dynamic, it is their harmony singing that is most
powerful. With warmth and humor, they share their music, their bond to
each other and their humanity with their listeners. Denny Williams will
be joining this duo on several songs, as well as performing some of his
original works.

The Earth Day Coffee House has inspired Hugh O'Doherty to write two
ecologically-oriented songs, collaborate on a third, and learn and
perform other songwriters' works that honor the Earth. His live
performances take the audience on a journey from romance to satire and
from riveting emotional issues to downright self-deprecating silliness.

Maia ten Brink recently won cash prizes, for first place at the Broken
Bridge - a national competition, as well as the Smith College poetry
contest for Massachusetts sophomore and junior girls as well as
invitations to read her poetry at Smith College and in Connecticut.

The Earth Day Coffee House is sponsored by Citizens for the Protection
of Waquoit Bay and benefits programs at the Reserve. To make the evening
more festive and appropriate for Earth Day, concertgoers will have the
opportunity to win a variety of prizes. Admission is $10.00, which
includes a WBNERR ceramic mug or $5.00 admission if you bring your own
mug. Doors open at 7:15 for the 8:00 performance. Reservations are
recommended by calling 508- 0457-0495 x108 or email
laurie.tompkins at state.ma.us as seating is limited. Reserved tickets must
be picked up by 7:45. The Reserve Headquarters-Visitor Center is located
at 149 Waquoit Highway, Route 28 in East Falmouth.
